Health/Fitness CentersIchiban Karate School / Cardio Kickboxing
Located in the old Sawmill building on Robinson Street, downtown Wakefield, Ichiban is the area's largest karate school. They feature a strong program for young children, youth, young adults, and of course, adults of all ages. Owner "Renshi" Chick Gavitt is a 5th degree black belt in an Okinawan form of karate called Shorin-ryu Shidokan. Head instructor is 4th degree Sensei Ken Berdeen. The school also offers cardio kickboxing worksouts on a regular schedule, an increasingly popular way to work out. There are two separate dojos, an martial arts store, and more. The school is wheelchair accessible via the side door on the right side of the building. Behind the school is a popular coffee shop called Eclectables, operated by 2nd degree black belt Sensei Wayne Lager.
