Originally built in 1775 as a county court house, this charming building alsoserved as one of five original Rhode Island state houses, when the General Assembly convened between 1776 and 1791. The first floor was remodeled for library purposes in 1895.The building joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Located at the intersection of Upper College Road (the main entrance to URI) and Route 138, this charming library is undergoing a facelift during 2001-2002 to restore its historic exterior.
Peace Dale Library
The largest library in our area is located on Kingstown Road just across from the old mill building complex. This glorious stone building was built by the sons of Rowland Hazard in honor of their father's memory. It was designed specifically as a home for the village library, which was founded in 1863.
Robert Beverly Hale Library
This one is closest to Matunuck, on Commodore Perry Highway.
